what is esewa

eSewa is a Digital Payment Portal which allows you to make online and offline payments to various merchants, transfer funds to various banks and many more. For example with eSewa you can topup your mobile, pay postpaid, landline and ADSL bills, buy bus tickets, airlines tickets and movie tickets, transfer money from one bank to another.

Is eSewa registration Free?

Yes, eSewa registration is absolutely free for everyone. Any Nepalese citizen above 16 years of age can register with eSewa account via mobile or internet

Will I be charged for using eSewa services?

No, you will not be charged for any payments made to the merchants. However, services like fund-transfer to banks, etc may incur charges depending on the policies adopted by eSewa.

Registration Process

How can I register with eSewa?

a. You can register to eSewa through web or your mobile device.
b. For web registration please visit eSewa Portal https://www.esewa.com.np and fill the registration form and complete the activation procedure as instructed.
c. For Mobile registration please type "REG" and SMS it to 2121 from your NT or Ncell mobile
 

How much does it cost to register through SMS?

SMS sent to 2121(eSewa) from Nepal Telecom mobile is free but from Ncell mobile its Rs. 0.50 per SMS. 

I registered to eSewa through web but I did not receive any confirmation mail?

In this case, we suggest you to please check the spam/junk folder; sometimes, your mailing account might forward the mails to those folders. If this does not happen then please call us on our toll free number 1660-01-02121.
 

I registered to eSewa through SMS but I did not receive any confirmation.

You should receive a SMS conformation within 10 seconds, if this does not happen then please call us on our toll free number. 
 

My Account status shows "UNVERIFIED". What does this mean?

It means you don't have a complete eSewa profile. You need to keep your eSewa profile complete because of the existing regulatory requirements of Nepal Rastra Bank which states that anyone willing to utilize financial services needs to complete his/her KYC (Know your Customer) form. 

How do I become a verified user?

You can verify yourself by updating your eSewa profile with required documents. Logon to https://www.esewa.com.np, click on my profile and fill the details, provide the valid documents required and request for verification. Your details will be validated and approved by us to ensure the completion of your verification process. 
Or 
Visit your nearest eSewa Zone with the identification verification documents. 
 

What documents do I required to become a verified user of eSewa?

You will need:
- Your citizenship card (scanned or photo copy).
- Your passport size photo (scanned copy or original). 
 

Why Do I need to become a verified user?

When you become verified user, you enjoy the following benefits:
- Verified users are allowed to hold more than Rs. 9999 on their eSewa wallet.
- Verified users can receive money through remittance like western union.
- Verified users can withdraw amount from eSewa to desired bank account among partner banks of eSewa.
If you are unverified user, your account will be blocked if your account has Rs.10, 000 or more amount. And you can't enjoy the benefits mentioned above. 
 

Can I use my eSewa wallet through multiple logins?

Yes, you can use your same eSewa wallet through both internet and mobile as well as you can add multiple emails and mobile numbers to access the same account. You will need to add your emails and mobiles with which you wish to use your eSewa wallet by editing your eSewa profile.
To add multiple logins to your eSewa wallet please logon you eSewa account and follow the following process:
My Account > Profile > Add More Details 

Through which mobile operators can I access eSewa.

You can access eSewa through GSM Post-paid and Pre-paid numbers of NT and Ncell. 

 

How do I use eSewa through my mobile?

Mobile application for eSewa is available on:
-Android phones
-iPhones (IOS system)
-Java enabled phones
-Blackberry phones

Why do I need to prefund my eSewa account?

eSewa is a digital wallet, if you have fund in your eSewa account then you can spend it any way you like, from online shopping to paying your utility bills, mobile top-ups and transferring it to various banks. You prefund your eSewa account, so that you can indulge yourself with easy online transactions. 

How can I load/pre-fund my eSewa Account?

eSewa offers various ways to load/prefund your eSewa account.

Internet Banking: You can transfer funds to your eSewa wallet using internet banking of our partner banks. For this you will need to have an Internet Banking enabled account with one of our partner banks.

Mobile Banking: If you have mobile banking enabled account with one of our partner banks then you can prefund your eSewa account using mobile banking.

Counter Deposit:
For the customers who don't have account in the above banks or the customers without mobile banking & internet banking can load their eSewa account by the process of counter deposit. Banks providing eSewa counter deposit services are: - 
- Gloabl IME Bank
- Kist Development Bank
- Siddhartha Development Bank
- Yeti Development Bank

eSewa Zone: Visit your nearest eSewa Zone to pre- fund your eSewa wallet.

P2P transfer: you can ask your friends and family to transfer you money in your eSewa account if they are already registered with eSewa and have funds in their account. 
 

I transferred some amount from my internet banking and/or mobile banking to eSewa account, but I cannot see the update in eSewa?

Your eSewa balance should be updated immediately after transferring funds from any bank. However, if you can't see it then there might be some error due to any of these reasons:
-Failure of the communication link between member bank and eSewa, or
-You may have provided a wrong eSewa ID address. 
We suggest you to please call eSewa support for further assistance. 
 

I transferred some amount from my internet banking and/or mobile banking to eSewa account, but I cannot see the update in eSewa?

  1. The update in balance is seen immediately after having it transferred from any bank. However, if you can't see it then there might be some error due to any of these reasons:
    1. Failure of the communication link between member bank and eSewa, or
You may have provided a wrong e-mail address. We suggest you to please call eSewa live support for further assistance.
 

Fund Transfer

Can I transfer fund to another eSewa User?

Yes, you can transfer fund to another registered eSewa user. 
 

I received fund from my friend in my mobile number or email address through eSewa but I am not registered. What should I do?

Please follow the registration procedure as indicated in Registration Process using the same mobile number or the same email address in which you have received the money. 

How can I withdraw money from my eSewa account to a bank account?

You can withdraw money from your eSewa account to a bank account by clicking withdraw option from your mobile app or after logging on to eSewa web portal. 

Making Payments

I am shopping through an eCommerce (online Shopping) Site. Can I make the payment through eSewa?

Yes, you can make payments to various eCommerce websites through eSewa. Please look for eSewa Logo as payment partner on the merchant's website for this purpose. 
 

How long does eCommerce merchants takes to deliver my item?

Please conform delivery time from your merchant by calling them or from their website. 
 

Can I make payments for the purchased goods/services at different stores?

Yes, you can make payments to the merchants with "fonepay accepted" stickers in their store through your eSewa account using mobile application of eSewa. 

I just paid for an online shopping site and the transaction status says "Pending". What is this?

The transaction status is pending until the merchant makes the delivery or accepts the payment. In case of product un-availability then the merchant will refund your paid amount.
